How would you prepare for Surgery?

Updated: Jul 5, 2023

How would you prepare for an event like a marathon, a major ball game, a tennis match, a bike excursion, etc.?

This is how you should prepare for surgery.

Think of surgery as an athletic event. You need to be able to endure and recover from the event.

The more "in-shape" you are before surgery will help you to have fewer complications, have a good outcome, and recover from it faster.

This past week I had a pretty major surgery.

I was in excellent physical condition going into my procedure which included an abdominal laparoscopy. This is where they put a tube in your belly and inflate it to distend the abdomen, then make another couple of incisions to insert a camera and tools to remove the necessary tissues.

Because I had low body fat and a conditioned core, Due to all my CORE classes! The surgeon had an easy time doing the procedure. It took less time than scheduled, so I was under general anesthesia for a shorter duration. This all improved the success of my surgery, and the healing will be shorter.

The takeaway here is to stay in your best condition. If you need to undergo a procedure or even endure more stress, you will already be physically prepared. Think of staying in good condition as your prep for a marathon called LIFE.

Being in good condition by staying active and exercising regularly is beneficial for many other reasons, including but not limited to:

  • Healthier heart, lungs, and circulatory system.

  • Better able to deal with stress.

  • Healthier state of mind.

  • Reduces the risk of heart attack.

  • Better weight management.

  • Have a lower blood cholesterol level.

  • Lower the risk of type 2 diabetes and some cancers.

  • Have lower blood pressure.

  • Have strong bones, muscles, and joints and lower risk of developing osteoporosis.

  • Lowers the risk of falls.

  • Have more energy.

  • Feel more relaxed and sleep better.

When you are feeling lazy, get up and go for a brisk walk. This may improve your mood and allow you to do a little exercise.

Bur remember that it is also important to give yourself downtime. Your body needs rest to recover from the stresses placed upon it. Yes, exercise is stress. #healthysurgery #prepforsurgery #surgeryprep #surgery #prepforlife #prepareforsurgery #prepareforlife #health #fitness #Exercise

Enjoy your day and do a little something everyday to stay healthy.
