Holiday fitness tips.

Our social calendars are filling up with office parties, family and friends get-togethers, holiday parties, and so many more events. It is easy to slack off your workout routines with so much going on, especially if you are the host.

Here are some holiday fitness tips to use through the holiday season.

Plan 10 minutes a day to do something active. Yes, only 10 minutes a day. If you are trying to commit to an hour - it will be harder to do and easier to say I don't have the time. 5 minutes will also work - NO EXCUSES!!

Usually, after 5-10 minutes you will feel energized and might feel like going longer - if not, you did something.

Ideas of what to do for 5-10 minutes:

  • Play Air guitar like a rock star!

  • Go for a brisk walk,

  • Do some jumping jacks,

  • Take the clothes off of your treadmill and use it

  • Put on some fun music and dance around

  • Break out the Wii and play something active

  • Stretch or Yoga

  • Jump on a rebounder

  • Jog in place

  • Do the Twist

  • Go up and down the stairs

  • Sit down, stand up, walk to the other room and back & repeat 10 times or more

  • Practice a full golf swing on both sides repetitively

  • Pushups and sit-ups

  • Jump rope

  • Stand on 1 leg and balance for 30+ seconds, Repeat 6 times on each leg

  • Rough house play with the kids or grandkids

  • Play tag

  • Throw the ball for the dog, don't just stand there, move around

  • Take the dog for a walk - A long walk.

  • If you don't have a dog borrow one.

  • Try doing these things vigorously,

  • Aerobic house cleaning

  • Aerobic yard work

  • Jog in place while doing dishes and putting them away

  • Side and back leg lifts while cooking

  • With this past rain, there will be plenty of weeds to pull

  • Sweep the deck

  • Rake up leaves

  • Clean your gutters

  • Vacuum the house

  • Vacuum out your car, get way under the seats and the trunk.

  • Wash your car.

  • Power-walk in the mall while shopping

  • Toe raises while standing in a line

  • Now get creative and move!
